vegas stageshow

Tim Beveridge & Rebecca Wright sang classic Vegas songs with the sensational Neophonic Orchestra and magical Diamond Showgirls. Poppy was enthralled by the costumes and will never forget the glamorous feathers and sequins. She grabbed a couple of stray feathers as they floated off the stage (we were in the front row) and has been wearing them in her hair ever since. This has been our favourite show of the year so far!

From Poppy:  “I loved this show and I wanted to see it again.  I loved the dancers and all their feathers.  Their high kicks were humongous!   One day I will make a costume with lots of feathers and high heel sparkly shoes.”

christchurch trip

It’s holiday time and Poppy was desperate to play in the snow – so we were off to Christchurch to visit our great friends the Atkinsons and to stay with Amy, Qing Qing & Joey. On the drive down we stopped at the Lewis Pass for some sledding and snow fun – it was lightly snowing at the time. Luckily the roads were all covered in grit and the drive itself was routine.

We also got a real feeling of the devastation of the earthquake damage (again!)  It was incredible to see the streets we walked around after the first earthquake totally destroyed after the second.  We watched cranes and cherry-pickers moving appliances and furniture from top floors before the roof and walls would be pulled down.

We saw a fabulous show from the Court Theatre, Hansel & Gretal (all in mime) and spent some really fun times with Ayla, Jana & Soul. After a wonderfully warm swim on Sunday afternoon we were treated to beautiful big snowflakes in the dark. We caught them on our tongues and had fun twirling in their icy frostiness…. Poppy was so excited!

The next morning we woke up to a white, wintery wonderland outside and we couldn’t wait to get our gloves and hats on to play in the snow. Unfortunately, our flight to Wellington was cancelled so we were in ChCh here for an extra night and rebooked the next morning.

Once we got to Wellington we had a whirlwind stay with NeeNe and got to see Boxes at CapitalE and the amazing Rumpelstiltskin by KidzStuff Theatre. We also had fun roller skating in Upper Hutt with Erin and Ella and spent some time at Te Papa before heading back to Christchurch.

The night maze was scary fun on Friday night and then Poppy’s special day on Saturday included watching the Dorothy the Dinosaur show with all her ChCh friends (Ayla, Jana, Qing Qing & Joey) and skating at the PhatSk8 Roller Disco before having a huge piece of chocolate cake for her 5 & a half birthday!!!

We drove home via Rangiora to say goodbye to the Atkinsons and then the Lewis Pass for some more snow fun and got home ready to start term three after a wonderful holiday!

henley kindy fundraising show

Poppy was offered the opportunity to perform as a representative of Glenna Armstrong’s School of Tap at the Henley Kindy’s fundraising Cultural Show.  She was very excited and had a lot of fun.  In this photo she is with her teacher, Sam waiting to go on.  The costume she is wearing was Sam’s when she was a wee one dancing for the first time!  Watch the video of her performance…
