Our latest toy library rental has been a real hit…. this little car has been Poppy’s favourite activity out at the farm where she is pushed around chasing Anya. She climbs in and out herself and keeps her wee feet up when it’s going. When she’s had enough inside, she’ll take a turn pushing it and walking behind.
GranJan and Yogi came to watch the Melbourne Cup race with Adrienne and Poppy so they all chose a horse to back in an informal sweepstakes. Considering her Memphis connection, Poppy’s horse was naturally Delta Blues – the eventual winner! As we watched the race, Poppy took her first two steps between the couch and ottoman without holding on! We tried to repeat this milestone with the video camera out – but it was back to crawling….
At only 9 months old, Poppy has her first piece of homework! Tiny Tots are creating a family tree and sent home ‘leaves’ for us to fill in with names and photos.
A typical trip to the mall with Yogi starts with grocery shopping at Fresh Choice where Poppy is given a free bread roll from the nice bakery ladies. After wandering the aisles and checking out all the colours – it’s on to the toy shop to play. After Yogi buys something silly from the $2 shop (in this case, a red santa hat) he takes Poppy for a ride on one of the many kiddy cars dotted around the mall.
GranJan’s plastics drawer at the farm is one of Poppy’s favourite places to play. You can buy the most amazing toys these days, but when you see your baby delight in playing with simple materials like pegs or egg cartons, you realise being creative may be the key. Tiny Tots put out a cardboard box the other day and said Poppy was the first to crawl into it and play.
We had a fun morning at the church fair – Poppy especially enjoyed the pet monkey and having a swing in the playground. Adrienne donated a website development package to the silent auction and was surprised at the interest and bids! Fred won a Poppies painting from the same auction. GranJan came along and we all had Devonshire Tea in the cafe.
