Look who Poppied up in full regalia

It seems four-year-old Poppy Ford has a few budding careers ahead of her.

“She is definitely a model in the making,” said Kim Jenkins, of Nelson.

“She could a have a great career in sales,” said Teresa O’Connor.

But this morning Poppy was happy asking passers-by if they wanted to buy a different kind of poppy – one that she said was for remembering the people who died in the war.

“Some boys went and some girls went; some died and some didn’t.”

Poppy’s mother Adrienne said that last year on Anzac Day her daughter had noticed all the flags in Trafalgar St and had asked what they meant.

A year on, Poppy can recount, as best as a four-year-old can, the horrors of war. “War is bad,” Poppy said.

Ms Ford said she liked her daughter to do some volunteer work and thought this would be a perfect opportunity.

It was also a perfect opportunity to get Poppy out, dressed in her favourite poppy outfit, on Poppy Day.

“She certainly is enthusiastic about it.”

Ms Ford said it was amazing how many poppy clothes one could find on an internet auction site.

poppy day

I helped Poppy sell poppies for Poppy Day in Trafalgar Street this morning and the Nelson Mail took photos of her for the newspaper tonight.  Poppy enjoyed asking people if they would like a poppy and it was hard to resist her sales pitch!  Our friends Morag & NeeNe came over from work to buy their poppies from us – and GranJan & Yogi visited as well. performance week

Alice in Wonderland by the new Body and Soul drama company was amazing.  We loved the venue at Fairfield House and the performance was excellent.  Winnie the Pooh at the Tahuna Kindy fundraiser was a little disappointing this year… we’ve loved the Jungle Book and Puff the Magic Dragon the past two years, but this time the ticket cost didn’t correspond to the delivered performance.  Into the Woods at the School of Music was fantastic – Poppy dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood and we’ve been singing along to the soundtrack ever since.  We were lucky to have front row seats at the final night of Oliver and it was fabulous!  I loved Fagan, Nancy and Bumble’s performances and full credit to the cast for their WONDERFUL singing!  Well done kids – I can’t wait till Poppy is old enough to join in.
