opening night

Poppy was so desperately waiting for the opening night of her dancing show with Peta Spooner’s Wakatu Dance Theatre. The rehearsal schedule has been heavy over the past three weeks with the last three nights being dress rehearsals in the theatre.  Poppy had a wonderful night and I took lots of photos of her backstage. GranJan & Yogi have tickets for the closing night on Saturday….

Here is an article in the Nelson Mail about the show.

rock & roll show

Poppy loved Tom Sharplin and his band in concert and sang along to the old favourites.  She particularly enjoyed watching Karen Davy and all her wonderful glittery rock & roll outfits.  She used to be a Dolly Parton impersonator – and brought Poppy up on stage during her Que Sera Sera number.  Peter Wood on piano & Ray Eade on bass were EXCELLENT and we all had a good time. GranJan & Yogi joined us as our Mother’s Day gift.

marching weekend

It’s the end of the marching season and Poppy’s Maitahi Guards team has had a fantastic time with their amazing coach, Lisa.  If you have a daughter, consider marching as a team sport – it’s been a very worthy activity for Poppy’s social, musical, physical & collaboration skills development.

This weekend we went to the Blenheim Marching Closing Fun Day where the girls did their technical and display routines as well as a march past, maze march and some games with costumes.

Taking the opportunity to see Ma & Pa while we were over that way, we stayed with them in Picton and also spent time with Poppy’s cousin, Jack.  We also had fun play times with Poppy’s friends and a trip to the Chocolate Factory!

collingwood st trolley derby

We were really excited to see the Kiwi Flyer trolley today during the races…. and we got to be crowd extras during the filming!

It’s not often Nelson is the filming venue for a movie so we took advantage of the opportunity to see the cameras in action.  The movie is set in summer, so we were all asked to remove the layers of wet weather gear and coats and think WARM!

The trolley races were awesome again this year…. we joined the club for next year and hopefully we’ll have an entry ready for Poppy by next year’s racing.
